Medical Conditions That Require Vascular Stent Placement
Vascular stents are used to treat a wide range of conditions caused by narrowed or blocked blood vessels. One of the most common indications is coronary artery disease, where plaque buildup restricts blood flow to the heart muscle. Stents restore circulation and reduce the risk of heart attacks.
Peripheral artery disease is another condition frequently treated with stents. Reduced blood flow to the legs can cause pain during walking, non-healing wounds, and, in severe cases, tissue death. Stenting improves circulation and helps preserve limb function.
Carotid artery stenosis, which affects blood flow to the brain, increases the risk of stroke. Stents may be used as an alternative to surgery in select patients to stabilize plaque and maintain vessel patency.
Renal artery stenosis can lead to high blood pressure and kidney dysfunction. Stents help restore blood flow to the kidneys, improving organ function and blood pressure control.
